The Call of Nuzugum

Poet: Nurmemet Yasin Orkishi

(Now the poet is serving an 11 year prison sentence in a Chinese prison after publishing the short story "Wild pigeon")

Where are you our heroic men?

Let us go to the desert,

The brave hunter finds freedom there,

It flows in his spirit and his blood.

[ENGLISH]

The reeds sing a desert song,

Horses neigh on the horizon.

The heroic people who once lived by the sword,

Now lie quiet beneath the earth.

The floating moon becomes a beautiful girl,

Telling a story in the blue sky,

Oh the reed bed fiercely burns,

And with it the hopes of a whole nation.

We are listening to it silently,

Not only with our ears but in our hearts,

The sand encroaches on the fertile lands,

But we are the real sandstorms.

Let us go to the desert,

There the delicate moon is telling a tale,

Perhaps it is a book of warriors,

Containing many beautiful myths.

It would be not strange to meet,

Freedom´s son, heroic chintomur

Let us live in a free world,

Singing desert songs all our lives.

Nuzugumning Chaqirghi

Nurmemet Yasin Orkishi

(Sha'ir "Yawa kepter" namiliq esirini elan qilghandin keyin turmide qamaq jazasida turuwatidu)

Nede sen ey batur erkekler?!

Yur keteyli chol-bayawan´gha.

Erik unda batur owchidur,

Mewj urar roh hem qeningda.

[UYGHUR]

Chol naxshisi eytar qumushlar,

Atlar kishner upuq chetide.

Qilich oynap otken batur el,

Yatar tinich yerning tektide.

Ay uzmekte bolup guzel qiz,

Kok asmanda toqup bir chochek.

Ah, lawildap koyer qumushzar,

Hem bir elning armini demek.

Biz tingshaymiz sukutte uni,

Qulaq emes yurikimizde.

Qum basmaqta munbet yerlerni,

Qum, borantuq bizler eslide.

Yur keteyli chol, bayawan´gha,

Qoshaq tuqar unda nuzuk ay.

U belkim bir jenggiwar qamus,

Guzel qisse yezilghan talay.

Ejep emes uchrap qalsa ger,

Erik oghli batur chin tomur.

Biz yashayli erkin dunyada,

Chol naxshisi eytip bir omur.

Never Ending Song

Teyipjan Eliyev (1930-1989)

[ENGLISH]

Every night I sing a song,

Circling the same street.

I walk with one goal,

I am trying hard, but I am not able to succeed.

I went out again tonight,

Knocking the window with my song.

Someone´s door opened,

An old-man came out upset at me.

"You sing every night,

Are you crazy, someone that can´t get well?

And you don´t let others sleep.

What kind of song is this, that never ends?"

"Don´t be upset old-man, you also were,

Young and sleepless.

You also couldn´t finish the song,

This is the same song, that never ends."

Tugumes Naxsha

Teyipjan Eliyev (1930-1989)

[UYGHUR]

Her kun axshimi naxsha eytimen,

Shu kochamdin egilip ketelmey.

Bir pellini kozlep mangimen,

Awarimen, tehi yetelmey.

Bugun axshammu chiqqantim yene,

Shox naxsham bilen derize qeqip.

Qayaqtin dur ixik echilip,

Kayip ketti bir boway chiqip.

"Kunde axshimi naxsha eytisen,

Sarangmu sen, ongshalmaydighan?!

Yaki ademge uyqa bermeysen.

Qandaq naxsha bu, tugimeydighan?"

"Kayima boway, sen mu bir chaghda,

Yash edingghu uxlimaydighan.

Senmu eytip tugitelmigen,

Shundaq naxsha bu, tugimeydighan."

Uyghur

Berqi

[UYGHUR]

Oghuzxan keliwatidu?

Yaq! yaq!

Addiy Uyghur u oy alalmighan.

Sheher kochisida hayat uchun yurgen sersane.

Astida eti yoq,

Altun tuyaqliq.

Ustide padichilar kiyimi,

Emes polat qunaqliq.

Qolida qilich emes,

Siqimdiwalghan,

Jinsiy ajizliqni dawalash heqqidiki elanni.

Yaq!yaq!

Keliwatidu kochida –

Bir Uyghur

Oghuzxanning bir tamche qeni.

Kelgusige qarap domilap,

Topigha milen´gen

Sarghayghan... Halda...
